Dr. Clancy McKenzie relaxes in India

"Dream up" information not available to your "five senses"
Information often goes beyond that which we would presume is contained in the mind. In fact, it contains knowledge that we know for certain was not within the scope of information available to us through direct, five-sensory perception.
One time I wrote a very strong letter to a patient who was taking to much Valium. Two nights later during sleep I became aware that she was so infuriated by the letter that she decided to not come back. Then during sleep I realized that both of us were at the most telepathic state of consciousness, so I just pictured her coming in the next day. When she arrived she said to me  when I got your letter yesterday I was so peeved that I decided I would never come back. But when I woke up this morning I changed my mind.” The lady of course thought that she changed her mind, when really it was me who put the thought there.
To illustrate further that the mind can reach beyond the dreamer, and beyond information we would presume is contained in our minds, I will use another example – but one that is apart from medical diagnosis and treatment:
A patient presented a particular problem. She really wanted to teach school but did not have enough college credits to earn her certificate. I told her this was no challenge for the programmed dream, and told her to just program the dream for the answer. When she awoke she could not recall a dream, but she went for a walk in a neighborhood where she had not been. There she saw an old friend of her mother – who invited her in for tea – and the friend told her  You will never guess what I am doing. I am teaching school. I didn't have enough credits so I am teaching in the Catholic School system where I don't need the certificate.”
Two other patients with businesses had dreams in which they saw their stores being robbed. The first was a lady who saw in a dream someone cutting a hole in the roof of her pawnshop and lowering himself inside by a rope ladder to steal various valuables. She called the police – who told her they already caught the man. He had set off the alarm.  Another was a woman who owned a jewelry store. She awakened late one morning with a dream about someone tying up her manager in the back room and robbing the store. When she called it had just happened.
When you program long enough for dreams, the mind becomes aware that you want to gather information during sleep, and it automatically does this for you. And the information reaches beyond the dreamer, and beyond information that you would presume is contained in the mind.
One time a dear friend complained about a heart condition that kept recurring. He had balloon dilation of the coronary arteries and also had a splint inserted in an artery – but still he experienced difficulty. I told him about the programmed dreams, gave him a set of the dream tapes to hear, and instructed him to wake up with the answer. Two days later I received a call from him at the U. of Pennsylvania Hospital, saying he had the dream and was told  get it over with” – so he went in for quadruple bypass surgery. I assured him he would not have received the answer if the operation were going to fail, because I had never known a programmed dream to be wrong.
The next night I visited and learned the surgery already had been completed that morning. During sleep that night, I received a clear message. He was up and running around in my dream, and suddenly one of the arteries burst. The words were  too soon.”
I knew this was a warning – not that it was going to happen, but that it would happen if he became active too soon. I canceled half a day of practice to go see him and explain the dream and that his arteries were made of very delicate 75-year-old tissue, and that he must not get up and rush around too soon – even if his doctors told him it would hasten recovery. His son and wife were there and agreed completely that it would be just like him to be up and dancing practically the next day. It is five years later and he is alive and well.
I didn't program for the dream and I did not program to awaken with it, and I do not know how it came about - but I was thankful for it, very thankful
Let's take another medical problem: Reynauld's phenomenon. This is a disorder of circulation, and the patient's hands and feet suddenly might turn purple and black. The medical cause is not understood, but that presents no obstacle for the programmed dream.
The first patient followed my instructions and decided to have a dream that would tell her what caused her Reynaud's. In the dream she was chasing the maid around the house, then out into the driveway – and then she was slamming the maid's head into the blacktop. Suddenly the face of the made changed to that of her younger sister. Her association was that she used to chase her younger sister around because she hated her because the father seemed to favor the younger sister. The next association, of course, is that if her hands turned black she would not be able to do this.
The anger and rage that existed in her mind and brain as a child, still was present, and still was hard-wired to the rest of the body, but remained beneath the surface. These aggressive impulses were incongruous with her later developmental mind and brain – which were kinder and more loving, and thus it appeared dynamically that the later developmental part of her mind – which too is hard-wired to the rest of the body – simply shut off the blood flow as a means of preventing the realization of the aggressive and murderous impulses toward someone she had grown to love. The mind can do this, and yogis have demonstrated their learned ability to direct blood flow to various regions of the body. Swami Rama, for example, was able to produce a ten-degree difference in temperature between one edge of his hand versus the other, and he was able to reverse this at will. This makes it more plausible that persons with Reynaud's can have one portion of the mind and brain decide to cut off the blood supply to prevent an objectionable action by another portion of the mind and brain.
One case does not make a theory, even though I have not really known programmed dreams to give wrong answers. I was happy when the next person with Reynaud's phenomenon showed up and we were able to program the question once more. This was a Catholic Nun, who was extremely gifted but who also was extremely troubled by sexual feelings that tempted her. The programmed dream again elucidated just that: One part of her mind/brain – which was hard wired to the rest of her body – was vehemently opposed to what another part of her mind/brain very much wanted to do, and it stopped her - cold! (excuse the pun) - by shutting off the blood supply.
Both dreams showed an extreme need on one part of the mind to control an extremely objectionable impulse belonging to another part of the mind. In the first person it was an aggressive impulse, and in the second case it was a sexual impulse that was thwarted by shutting off the blood supply.
